Front St. circa 1900

Entertainment on Front Street

It wasn't easy taking a candid snapshot around the turn of the century. Equipment and chemicals had to be hauled around in a wagon. When you found the right spot you tied up the horses and unloaded a large camera, some glass plates, a sturdy wooden tripod, and a focusing cloth. Folks in Junction City then didn't have a lot of entertainment; so a traveling photographer spending time setting up his gear in the middle of the was interesting enough for everyone to stop what they were doing to watch the process.

If you look carefully, you can see the opera house and hotel in the background.
