“Soropti-Facts”
The word Soroptimist is
formed from two Latin words: “Soror” meaning “Sister” and “Optima” meaning
“Best”.
Soroptimist is probably
best interpreted as:
“THE BEST FOR
WOMEN”
The first Soroptimist Club was founded
in 1921 in Oakland, California. In 1923, the first European clubs were chartered
in London and Paris. There are now four Federations: Federation of the Americas,
Federation of Europe, Federation of Great Britain & Ireland, and Federation of
Southwest Pacific.
Soroptimist International of the Americas is the largest with
more than 1500 clubs and 47,500 members.
Soroptimist International of Junction
City was chartered in 1969 and has more than 65 members. We are part of District
2 in the Northwestern Region which includes Alaska, Montana, Washington and
Oregon.
